A Frightening And Harrowing World

Barack Hussein Obama, the President of our United States of America, hates Israel and always has. He also hates America as it is presently constituted and he will work to bring down both the reconstituted Jewish state in its ancient and biblical homeland along with this glorious republic that is America.
Before and since coming to power, this president has surrounded himself with people like Rashid Khalidi, a one-time spokesman for the Islamist Hamas terror organization and offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood: In other words, those who are Islamic haters of Jews and Christians and whose followers have committed persecutions and slaughters down the ages – and still do.
As a mirror image to the Muslim haters of the Jewish people, Obama also has surrounded himself with people like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright whose perverted form of Christianity, along with elements of Replacement Theology, has also been responsible for anti-Jewish persecutions and slaughters down the ages.
As Mark Levin inferred in his Talk Radio program the other day, this Obama regime, the Democrat Party, and the grotesquely compliant Congress has made this world a much more dangerous place.
What are we to make, for instance, of our president calling the Turkish Prime Minister and expressing his condolences for the deaths of jihadist and Islamist thugs masquerading as “peace-activists” on board what I describe as “The Flotilla of Lies and Violence?” One word to describe Obama’s obeisance to the Turkish prime minister is: “shameful.”
But no outrage came from this president towards the activities of the Turkish leader who deliberately and cynically connived in sending a convoy of ships full of jihadists and their misguided supporters to aid and abet the murderous Hamas regime; a regime which calls for the genocide of the Jews in Israel and the destruction of the tiny and embattled Jewish state. For those “peace-loving activists” who were on board some of the ships, Lenin had a phrase for them: He called them, “useful idiots.”
Obama’s earlier outreach at Cairo to the Muslim world – a world of some 57 regimes, dictatorships, kingdoms, emirates and tyrannies, all stuck in the 7th century – was warning enough for those of us who still cherish the fundamental freedoms of expression, of the press, of free assembly, of religion and of the rights of women and minorities, that the United States of America has given us and the world.
These essential and divinely inspired freedoms do not exist in the Muslim world. Is it any wonder then that they hate us for not submitting to their rigid Islamic and Koranic strictures?
Let’s look at the Islamic, anti-Western IHH – the chief supporter of the flotilla to Gaza – which poses as a humanitarian relief fund (Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation), while supporting Hamas and several Jihadist organizations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
IHH was involved with Ahmed Ressam, an Islamic terrorist, who attempted to smuggle 1,320 pounds of explosives and plant them at the Los Angeles International Airport. According to French intelligence, Bulent Yildirim, the president of IHH, recruited “Jihadi warriors” and transferred money, firearms and explosives to Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists in various countries.
He also ran “peace convoys” from Syria into the Fallujah Triangle in Iraq; convoys which carried IEDs and weapons used to kill American soldiers. It would seem inconceivable for President Obama or his State Department not to know this.
So now we have the Muslim world predictably calling for Israel to be isolated, to be made into a pariah state for the crime of trying to defend itself. Add to it the nations of that charnel house called Europe, which has spewed upon the world stage Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and before them an endless parade of monsters and despots. Most alarmingly of all, we now have the Obama regime and much of the western media siding more and more with the thugdoms and rogue regimes in this benighted, early 21st century world.
So inevitably Israel is being portrayed as brutal and unconcerned for the human rights of the militants on board the flotilla. Hamas and the many other Islamic terror organizations, who relentlessly commit unspeakable atrocities against the human rights of women and non-Muslims, are adept at masterfully playing the Western world, its press and governments, for the suckers they truly are.
The pro-Hamas flotilla of lies and violence was concerned not with genuine human rights but with providing the trigger and excuse for a future Arab and Muslim war of genocide against Israel. Just as Hitler’s Nazi regime systematically demonized the stateless and defenseless Jews as a precursor to the Holocaust, so the Muslim world and the immoral Europeans, and too many in America, repeat the storyline.
The end result is that Israel, as so often, is caught in a “No-Win” situation and must ultimately use force to stop the aggression and depredations of the Hamas terror organization. Whether Hamas and the Islamists unleash incessant rocket fire into Israeli towns and villages, kidnap Israelis, inflict terror attacks, or bring a flotilla of so-called “peace activists” to Gaza, Israel is brought to a position that it must act; to not do so is ultimately to commit national suicide.
It is worth repeating: Much of the mainstream press consistently refuses to accept or understand how they are being relentlessly manipulated by Hamas, Hezbollah, the Islamists and Jihadists.
We are witness today to the radical Left joining in an unholy alliance with the Islamic world and supporting the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria – all Muslim groups and states that will crush the Left if the worldwide Islamic Caliphate ever comes to power: And all joining gleefully in the anti-Israel hate-fest.
If any advice can be given to Jewish Americans and others it is to jettison ties with a Democrat party that has lurched so far to the left that it is unrecognizable as the Democrat party of their parents and grandparents time. The same goes for those Catholic and Protestant Americans whose values also are now being betrayed by both this president and the Democrats in the House and Senate.
The only hope is for citizens to realize that in America this November the election for House and Senate members is the most crucial that America has perhaps ever faced. Without a massive brake on the power of Obama’s agenda – and on those who surround him – we truly face a frightening and harrowing world.

First it’s not ‘Islam,’ now it’s not ‘radical Islam’

President George W. Bush made the first critical mistake when – in an effort to prevent a backlash against peaceful American Muslims – he moved quickly after 9-11 to stress that the enemy that had perpetrated the worst attack on the United States since Pearl Harbor was not “Islam” but “radical Islam.”
The enemy, the former president insisted – against all the available historical evidence – was not the religion. “Islam is a religion of peace.”
Bush’s effort to walk the politically acceptable walk was picked up and pushed to the limit by the other nations of the world (almost all of them Bush-hating), and especially by the Islamic ones.
But even as they applauded his reluctance to call a spade a Muslim (while despising him for it), the Islamic states – most of which actively and ardently support Islamic terrorist organizations – never imagined that the NEXT American president would let the Islamic world – which is involved in almost every conflict on the globe today – completely off the hook.
But that is what Barack Obama has decided to do – according to widely and wildly circulating press reports Wednesday.
As the Associated Press had it:
“President Barack Obama’s advisers will remove religious terms such as “Islamic extremism” from the central document outlining the US national security strategy and will use the rewritten document to emphasize that the United States does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terror…
“The change is a significant shift in the National Security Strategy, a document that previously outlined the Bush Doctrine of preventative war and currently states: “The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century.”
“… rewriting the strategy document will be the latest example of Obama putting his stamp on US foreign policy, like his promises to dismantle nuclear weapons and limit the situations in which they can be used.”
Not only are Muslims not the cause/source of most terrorism. Neither, in the view of the Obama administration, are radical Muslims.
Where, then does this leave us – apart from with an even stronger suspicion than we have had up till now that Obama himself prays to Allah in his closet?
For Israel – the hundreds of millions of Muslims who surround this little country and seek its destruction – the enemy has just become nameless.
And those calling America the “great Satan” are no longer Islamic radicals. I guess they are just misguided individuals – errant members of the great global village; the international community of nations.
Their religion – whose founder was himself a terrorist and which demands from every one of its adherents a commitment to jihad – holy war; is really not the issue at all.
Is it?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem …

White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, was ordered by the Obama apparatchiks to express displeasure at the decision by Israel to build houses in the East Jerusalem suburb of Gilo. But Gibbs failed to disclose that lands on which Gilo was built, as with other suburbs in “disputed” parts of East Jerusalem, were home to many Jews who were driven out in 1948 by the British officered Arab Legion of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
It wasn’t liberated by Israel, or the land restored, until the June, 1967 Six Day War, nineteen years later. King Hussein of Jordan had thrown in his lot with the Egyptian leader, Gamal Abdul Nasser, who was boasting how he was on the verge of destroying the Jewish state. The King believed Nasser’s claims and attacked along the entire Jordanian – Israel front (including Jerusalem) despite pleas by Israel for him to not follow Nasser’s aggression. History might have been very different if Hussein had listened to Israel’s pleas.
In the nineteen years that the Jordanians occupied the territory, they never remotely considered it as anything but Jordanian. Certainly they never thought it belonged to another Arab and primarily Muslim people who later called themselves Palestinians. As it was, Jordan’s illegal occupation of East Jerusalem as well as of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) was recognized by only two countries, Britain and Pakistan.
But the Obama White House, and the relentlessly anti-Israel State Department, nevertheless have decided to continue echoing the demands of the Palestinian Authority and call for Israel to stop building homes, not only in Judea and Samaria, but even within Jewish suburbs of Israel’s capital city, Jerusalem; this while Arab settlement building continues unchecked throughout the area at a feverish pace.
It matters not to Obama that Jerusalem, east, west, north and south, has been described as the eternal city of the eternal people.
Let me quote the words from 1918 of the great Rabbi J.H. Hertz, Chief Rabbi of Great Britain, at the thanksgiving service for the liberation of Jerusalem from the Ottoman Turks by British forces. He spoke of the nearly 4,000 years of history that bound the Jews to their spiritual and physical capital city and of their fate in defending it against its many conquerors:
“Like the Jew, this Holy City of Israel is deathless; fire and sword and all the engines of destruction have been hurled against it in vain. The Babylonians burnt it and deported its population; the Romans slew a million of its inhabitants, razed it to the ground, passed the ploughshare over it and strewed its furors with salt; Hadrian banished its very name from the lips of men, changed it to Aelia Capitolina and forbade any Jew from entering it on pain of death. Persians and Arabs, Barbarians and Crusaders and Turks took it and re-took it, ravaged it and burnt it; and yet, marvelous to relate, it ever rises from its ashes to renewed life and glory.”
Rabbi Hertz was talking on the very day that 2,080 years earlier, Judah Maccabee, the legendary Jewish hero, led his warriors against the Greek-Syrians to liberate the Holy city from its heathen occupiers, entered the Temple, and re-dedicated it to the glory of the One and Only God. Rabbi Hertz ended his speech by proclaiming the prophetic teaching of the Maccabean Festival, we know as Hanukah, in Zechariah, 4:6: “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts.”
It is well to dwell on what has been said by both Jews and non-Jews in the past about Jerusalem for there is a government and a Prime Minister in Israel today under ruthless assault by President Obama who demands that Israel abandon parts of eternal Jerusalem and give it away to those who hate the Jewish People and who have set their face against accepting any Jewish independence or sovereignty in the Land of Israel.
Jerusalem and Zion are interchangeable. One can go back through the mists of time and read as far back as the towering words in Isaiah 2:1 and Micah 4:2: “For out of Zion shall come forth the Torah, and the word of God from Jerusalem.”
In the Jewish Bible (the Torah and Tanach) the words Jerusalem and Zion appear 821 times with Jerusalem appearing 667 times and Zion appearing 154 times. In the Christian Bible, the name Jerusalem appears 154 times and Zion seven.
In the Muslim Koran, Jerusalem and Zion do not appear at all. Indeed, it was only after the Arabs, under their new banner of Islam, conquered Jerusalem in the year 638 that they invented Islamic history in and around Jerusalem. We are told that Mohammed flew on his magic horse, Barak, to a place called Al Aksa, which means simply the farthest place. Only much later, and for political reasons to do with historic and spiritual Jewish and Christian ties to Jerusalem, Muslims named the holy city as the actual destination.
According to the much loved correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, the late Moshe Kohn:
“Jewish sources speak of the seventy names by which Jerusalem is referred to in the classical Jewish sources. These include Ariel/lion of God (Isaiah 29:1); Kirya Neemana/Faithful City (Isaiah 1:25); Ir Ha’emet (City of Truth (Zechariah 8:3); Klilat Yofi/Paragon of Beauty (Lamentations 2:15); Yefay Nof/ Beautiful Panorama (Psalms 48:3); and the ancient commentary of Rabbi Akiva in Sanhedrin 58a on 1 Chronicles 29:11 Hanetza/Eternity.”
But what of now? The modern State of Israel endures a world willing, even anxious, to divide Jerusalem again – even as it celebrates the reunification of Berlin – and to give away ancestral and biblical Jewish lands to an enemy led by a Holocaust denier, Mahmoud Abbas, whose own Fatah organization continues to murder Jews and gleefully claim credit for its crimes.
After taking colossal risks for peace, Israel abandoned parts of Judea including Jericho and Hebron, the ten mile wide security zone in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip to the Arabs. They, in turn, showed their contempt for peace by not creating a civilized society in Gaza, for example, but by sliding into 7th century barbarism and Islamism. They rained thousands of missiles upon Israeli towns and villages adjacent to the terror infested, Arab occupied territories in southern Lebanon and Gaza and the world stood by in silence. Now that same world demands that a similar fate befall Jerusalem.
That has been the sorry pattern of Israel’s suicidal policy of “land for peace” whereby the Arab aggressors receive land from Israel only to then launch new terrorism against the embattled Jewish state from abandoned territory. In turn, Israel never receives peace.
This failed and tragic policy has been pressed upon Israel by successive American Secretaries of State and Presidents but never more so than by the current American president whose formative years were deeply influenced by Islam.
Israeli leaders have seemed unable to learn any lessons from their futile withdrawals from southern Lebanon and Gaza. If the Obama Administration has its way, the very ancestral Jewish homeland in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) will be lost, not by the ravages of an enemy host but by an Israeli government buckling under Obama’s brutal pressure and thus acquiescing in its own national suicide.
As Frank Gaffney wrote in an article some years ago about the delusional peace process:
“… The entire Annapolis house of cards is built on the fraudulent foundation that the Palestinian faction established by Abbas’ mentor, Yasser Arafat, is a reliable partner for peace. Only a zealot who has altogether lost any sense of reality could make such an assertion.”
Will Prime Minister Netanyahu withstand the brutal pressure from Barack Hussein Obama and not sell out Israel’s ability to remain a viable state with an undivided capital city in eternal Jerusalem? It remains to be seen.
But if Netanyahu falters, Israel may not be able to defend itself after being forced back within the nine mile wide pre-1967 borders, which an Israeli statesman, Abba Eban, once described as the “Auschwitz borders.”

Obama bulldozing Israel’s future

President Obama is demonstrating an alarming hostility toward the Jewish state and has gone out of his way to describe Israeli homes in Judea and Samaria and in parts of Jerusalem, as “illegitimate.”
The British government and the European Union are equally determined to deny legitimacy to Israeli construction of homes and schools in the biblical and ancestral Jewish homeland. They do so while actively encouraging with financial and diplomatic means the enormous unchecked building activity of Arab construction in and around Jerusalem and throughout Judea and Samaria. Indeed, many of these new Arab homes are luxurious villas financed with Saudi money, contrasting starkly with the humble homes in which most Israelis live.
President Obama, along with the State Department, Britain and the EU are clearly engaged in de-legitimizing existing Jewish owned properties as well as new construction. This policy has been highlighted by the grotesque outpouring of hostility towards the recent removal of Arab squatters from Jewish owned homes in Jerusalem. The homes in question had been purchased decades ago by their Jewish residents who had subsequently been dispossessed of them by the Jordanian Arab occupiers after the 1948 Arab-Israel War.
I was visiting England and watching BBC television news as it reported on the removal of the Arab squatters. The BBC’s spin was so biased against Israel — no surprise there — that it almost seemed as if the reporter was in a parallel universe.
After many years of going through the Israeli court system and repeatedly serving notice on the Arab culprits to vacate the premises, the police finally took action. In Britain, squatters are given short shrift by society and the police, but if the miscreants happen to be Arabs in Jerusalem then the BBC displays an altogether different set of values.
Of course the BBC and most of the international mainstream media ignored the Jewish ownership of the properties in question. Such facts would complicate an otherwise delicious story of ‘wicked Israelis’ evicting ‘innocent’ Arabs. It would also be an inconvenient truth to refer to the legal title owned by the dispossessed Jews.
After illegally annexing the West Bank (recognized by only two countries, Britain and Pakistan) the Jordanian occupiers of east Jerusalem held the Jewish owned homes under a government entity known as the, “Jordanian Custodian of Enemy Property.” This in itself clearly implied that the Jordanians considered the Jewish occupants as enemies. This was also an implicit admission that these homes were Jewish owned. Again the BBC predictably ignored that vital fact.
I spoke to several Brits after the BBC had aired the news report and all believed the story as it had been spun. They were completely unaware that the Arab squatters were in the homes illegally. One problem in Britain is that there is no Talk Radio as there is here in the United States. Thus, most folks have little recourse to verifying the truth or otherwise of BBC broadcasts.
It was only after Israel defeated its Arab enemies in the defensive June, 1967 Six-Day War that the lands and properties earlier stolen from the Jews by the Arab aggressors had the opportunity, at last, of being returned to their rightful owners. Much of this land was purchased in the 19th century when Jerusalem was a remote and impoverished provincial town of the Ottoman Empire with a population of less than 40,000.
According to the eminent British historian, Sir Martin Gilbert, in his book, Jerusalem Illustrated History Atlas, the estimated population of Jerusalem in 1845 as evidenced by Dr. Schultze, the Prussian Consul, comprised 7,120 Jews, 5,000 Muslims and 3,390 Christians. Sir Martin adds that by 1889 the population of Jerusalem had risen to 39,175 of whom Jews totaled 25,000, Christians 7,175 and Muslims 7,000.
There are scores of Jewish properties, illegally occupied by Arabs, scattered throughout areas of east Jerusalem. They have remained in legal limbo because of international pressures against successive Israeli governments. This has led to endless delays in the return of the land and properties to their rightful owners. Sadly, the Obama Administration and the State Department are at the forefront of this continuing pressure.
It is too soon to know whether President Obama will shed his anti-Israel animus. It is, perhaps, too soon to learn if he is even aware of the earlier positions of American Administrations and the Congress with respect to the Jerusalem Embassy Relocation Act of 1955. That bill underlined previous American understandings that “Jerusalem should remain undivided.
While the Obama Administration is busy bulldozing through policies inimical to the American way of life, buoyed by an impregnable Democrat voting majority, it is also reaching out to enemies of America, such as Syria and Iran, while betraying and discomfiting loyal allies of the United States.
Its negative attitude toward Israel, its most loyal ally in the Middle East, is but one example of a deeply alarming policy shift. Others include the reluctance to support openly the mostly young protestors in Iran who bravely took to the streets to vent their outrage at the stolen election by Ahmadinijad and the mullahs. Obama remained disturbingly quiet while the protestors were brutally beaten in the streets of Tehran.
However, our same president felt it necessary to voice his support to the ousted leftwing President Zelaya of Honduras who had attempted to illegally run for another term of office and who was poised to trash the Honduran constitution in the same way Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez has done in his country.
Obama now has his own Afghanistan War, which according to Stephen Tanner, the author of Afghanistan: A Military History from Alexander the Great to the War with the Taliban, has proven to be a part of the world no foreign power has ever conquered.
Such disturbing policy shifts by this president may yet come to haunt the security of the United States for decades to come.

Humiliation is Thy Name

The days pass and Arab aggression grows more blatant and deadly. The world becomes less and less friendly towards the Jewish state, but in turn, the response from Israel’s present leaders – Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni – can be summed up as humiliation piled upon humiliation.
Both the United States and Russia are rushing to arm Lebanon with new deadly weapons, knowing full well that they will fall into the hands of Hizbullah, yet not a murmur of protest has been heard from the three leaders who have brought Israel to the edge of the abyss. Israel is humiliated.
The farce that was the truce between Hamas and Israel was always a lie. The three politicians, whom the Israeli people endure, bought into a deceptive Arab ploy that any schoolchild could see for what it was.
How many times must it be restated that no Muslim entity, especially Hamas, will ever honor any agreement made with non-Muslims. It is in the Koran for all to see, except, of course, those who lead Israel and choose not to see. Again, the Jewish state is humiliated.
Hamas used the illusory ceasefire to build up its weaponry and defenses, while the Israeli people suffered from intermittent shelling and missile attacks from the Gaza Arabs. Now, the missile barrage grows daily in its intensity and lethality, while the Arabs look at the Jews’ timid response with derision and contempt.
When Hamas announced that the so-called six-month ceasefire was over, Ehud Barak pleaded with them to continue the farce. Again, more humiliation.
The Israeli Supreme Court declared that in the course of responding to Arab aggression from Gaza it is illegal to fire at Arab civilian populations, thus rendering retaliation against Hamas and Islamic Jihad impossible. Meanwhile, the Arabs deliberately aim at Israeli civilians.
If Israel had fought such a war in 1948, then the state would never have been reborn. Sixty years afterwards, Israel no longer stands as the symbol of pride and pluckiness that so many in the world once respected.
Now Israel, under the present government, stoops low like the ghetto Jew. Forced to survive but fearful to strike back at his tormentors, he is always seeking that delusional opiate called “peace,” which is but a bitter herb.
The new Obama administration is looming large for Israel. It will not be friendly. It contains officials hostile to the Jewish state. They will lean with growing brutality upon Israel to force it to give away its Biblical homeland, to make Judea and Samaria judenrein in order to create a new Arab state.
The “two-state solution” will be for the Jews of Israel a new “final solution.” Within the mere fifty miles which is the width of Israel from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River, a hostile Arab state will emerge. What southern Israel has endured from Gaza will be repeated from Judea and Samaria. Israel will be reduced to a nine-mile-wide insanity within lines once called by Abba Eban, “the Auschwitz borders.” Humiliation will give way to annihilation.
Are we to be the generation that witnesses the destruction of the Jewish state; a destruction primarily self-induced by sad and sorry leaders?
How long before a leader returns the Jewish state to a condition of pride in itself and a terror to its enemies? We know it is hated by the world, even though it conducts itself in a more humane way towards its implacable and barbaric Arab foes than any other nation has ever done or would.
Is it not better then to do what it must to survive, knowing that it will be hated anyway? Is there any purpose served in trying to be liked by such a world? Must Israel heap more humiliation upon itself in order to win brownie points from a world that scorns it?
Have not all the past examples of the world’s deceptions and intrigues against the Jewish state taught Israel’s present leaders anything? Alas, it would seem not.
Let this era of humiliation end speedily in our time. With the miracle of Chanukah fresh in our minds and in its spirit of re-dedication, let us pray for a leader like Judah Maccabee to arise and once more give all who love and cherish Eretz Yisrael reason to feel pride and hope.
